The congregational life cycle is part of my lifelong research, writing, teaching, consulting, and mentoring. I began working on it with a ministry colleague and friend—Jere Allen—in the mid-1970s. By the early 1980s we joined with another colleague—Robert (Bob) Dale—to learn from one another.
Jere and I first published on the life cycle in 1981 in a manual—Shaping a Future for the Church in the Changing Community. That same year Bob’s book—To Dream Again—was published. The three of us found one another because of these published works.
Over the past five decades I spent the most time of the three of us developing and using the congregational life cycle. I published on it many times. I continued to learn from people in profit, non-profit, and religious networks the concepts, ideas, and applications I included in my presentations and writing.
I am still learning how to apply the life cycle for the empowerment of congregations, denominations, and parachurch organizations in the Christian arena.
Below is a link to a flipbook that represents much of my current thinking. You are welcome to access it for free. All I ask is that you consider using the questions on page 31 to provide me with some feedback so I can count you as a colleague from whom I have learned valuable insights.
